What does it mean to be raised in the “Paris of South-America”? Long ago, this question sparked my curiosity and has oriented my interests in cultural studies and arts ever since.

By appropriating classical European ornamental imagery from textiles, façades, and crafts, my work reflects on the traces of colonial discourse and its political implications in South América: interlaced in our worldview and shaping aesthetic criteria, its hegemonic narratives prevail in today’s society, marginalizing diverse voices.

My interpretations and reconfigurations of these designs explore heritage, multiple identities, and the entangled concept of “origin”. My symbolic universe attempts to capture subtle metamorphoses in a faded charm that, resembling a tango song, nurture nostalgia for an idealized past.

The development of a tactile language informed by the peculiar materiality of soft resin suggests a sign of temporality that evokes different ways of doing and inhabiting the world. My sculptural patterns long for multilayered answers to the notions of cultural hybridity and the space “in-between”.
