About
Modern society has a lot of preconceived ideas about value, usefulness and age. In response to this, my artwork addresses the life-cycles of objects and nature, as well as the challenges of women in modern society. Through the use of discarded objects and collage my work stresses the importance of being able to see anew what was previously taken for granted. My mixed media artwork is primarily conceptual with the goal of visually expressing experiences and shared histories.
The majority of my artwork is sculpture, painted paper silkscreens, and assemblage. My creative process is instinctive and guided by the materials themselves. The compositions emerge from my decades of commercial work as an award-winning graphic designer, an occupation that involves moving of objects around on a plane for maximum visual effect. In subtle ways, personal experience often serves as content in my work. Using words or phrases has been a recurring theme of mine, as well as using strong typography usage as a visual element. Almost always there are strong conceptual components binding and unifying the physical elements.
My artwork presents revitalized perspectives on the ordinary and our interactions with the natural world in an attempt to foster greater appreciation for each.
